Patient’s Initial Concerns and First Impressions
Deborah, a 46-year-old bus driver from Dublin, initially contacted us on May 23, 2024, after her optician recommended a lens replacement. She provided her eye examination report, which confirmed her eligibility for smart lens surgery. The next step was to plan her hospital visit and surgery day.

Smart Lens Treatment Plan
Deborah’s surgery was carefully scheduled to accommodate her availability. Upon arrival, she was given an in-depth consultation to assess her eye measurements, profession, and other personal needs. Based on her profession as a bus driver and the need for sharp vision both during the day and at night, the Johnson & Johnson Pureese lens was selected as the most appropriate option.
Smart Lens Surgery Day
On September 10, 2024, Deborah was picked up from her hotel at 8:30 AM and brought to the hospital. By 9:00 AM, pre-op eye measurements and a detailed eye examination were performed. The results confirmed that the Johnson & Johnson Pureese lens was the best choice for her visual needs. The surgery lasted about 40 minutes and went smoothly without any complications.
Post-Surgery Recovery
Deborah’s recovery is still ongoing, with regular follow-ups. She has reported minor dryness in her eyes, a common post-op symptom, which is expected to improve over the next month. Our medical team has reassured her that her vision will continue to sharpen as the healing process progresses.
Trifocal Lens Implant Patient Review
Deborah shared her positive experience through Trustpilot, expressing her gratitude for the exceptional care provided during her stay. She appreciated the constant support from our team, especially noting the translator Ege and the hospital coordinator Huseyin for their professionalism and warmth.
"I recently had trifocal lens eye surgery in Turkey, with Medical Art as the agency hosting us for the procedure at VM Medical Park. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to both Ege and Huseyin for their outstanding service. Ege was with us every step of the way, from the initial consultations to being present in the operating room. Huseyin ensured we had everything we needed throughout our time there. I highly recommend Medical Art to anyone considering this surgery—you will be in excellent hands!"— Deborah Scarmato, September 10, 2024
Medical History and Risk Factors
Deborah’s overall health history presented no significant risk factors that would impact the lens replacement surgery. This was taken into account during her treatment planning to ensure the best outcome.
Follow-up and Recommendations
We are continuing to monitor Deborah’s recovery over a six-month period. She has been given detailed instructions on how to apply the prescribed eye drops and maintain proper eye care during this time.
Alternative Eye Treatment Options
Initially, based on Deborah’s optician’s report, she was considered a candidate for the Johnson Synergy Trifocal Lens. However, after an updated eye examination and taking her profession into account, the Johnson & Johnson Pureese lens was recommended for its superior performance in providing clear vision both day and night, essential for her work as a bus driver.

Procedure Explanation:
Left Eye: Local anesthesia was applied to the left eye, meaning the eye was numbed so the patient wouldn’t feel pain during the operation.
Cleaning: The area of the operation was cleaned with 10% povidone-iodine, an antiseptic solution used to reduce the risk of infection.
Eye Preparation: Sterile drapes were placed on the eyelid to keep the area clean during surgery.
Conjunctival Sac Cleaning: The conjunctival sac (the part of the eye near the white area) was also cleaned using 5% povidone-iodine.
Clear Field of Vision: A special clear fluid was used to ensure the surgeon had a clean view of the eye.
Viscoelastic Material Applied: This substance was used to protect the eye’s interior and make it easier to place the new lens.
Lens Placement in Capsule: A smart lens (Johnson & Johnson Pureese Denovo Diop. +20.50D) was placed inside the capsule where the natural lens sits.
Post-Procedure: After the lens placement, antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops were administered to prevent infection and inflammation.
In summary: A new lens was implanted into the eye. The eye was numbed, cleaned with antiseptic solutions to prevent infection, and after the lens was placed, medication was applied to aid in recovery.
