Patient Story: Nadia’s Smart Lens Journey – A New Vision with MedicalArtTurkey
For years, I had been living with high-degree myopia (both eyes at -6.00), which meant I was constantly dependent on glasses. It was limiting my comfort and freedom in daily life. At the beginning of March 2025, I reached out to MedicalArtTurkey to inquire about lens replacement treatment. From the very first contact, I was connected with a highly professional and caring patient coordinator who guided me through every step.
Step One – Preliminary Evaluation & Treatment Planning
The coordinator asked me to send my most recent eye examination report from my home country. I shared my eye test dated December 14, 2023.
Since the report was about three months old, I asked if that might be an issue. They explained that while the final treatment plan would be shaped by in-person tests in Istanbul, the existing report was perfectly suitable for making an initial evaluation and planning the treatment journey. This gave me peace of mind and confidence to move forward.
Day 1 – Arrival and Comprehensive Eye Examination
Upon arriving in Istanbul, I was taken directly to the hospital for a full ophthalmologic evaluation. The following tests were carried out with precision and care:
Autorefractometry: Automated measurement of eye prescription
Biometry: Intraocular lens power calculation
Corneal Topography: Mapping of the corneal surface
OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography): Retina scan
Fundus Imaging: Detailed imaging of the back of the eye
Following these tests, it was confirmed that I was an ideal candidate for smart lens (trifocal intraocular lens) surgery. That same day, under local anesthesia, I underwent a successful smart lens implantation in both eyes. The procedure was painless, quick, and incredibly comfortable.
Day 2 – Post-Op Check & a Touch of Istanbul
The following morning, I returned to the hospital for a post-operative check-up. The doctor carefully examined my visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and the position of the lenses. Everything was progressing exactly as expected, and I could already notice a significant improvement in my vision.
After the medical checks, the MedicalArtTurkey team arranged a short but memorable cultural break. We enjoyed a walk through Sultanahmet and around Hagia Sophia, followed by a traditional Turkish meal. It was a lovely touch that made the whole experience feel even more personalized and special.
Day 3 – Return Home
On the third day, I was picked up from my hotel and transferred to the airport for my return home. With everything going smoothly and my vision already improving, I headed home feeling grateful and satisfied.
Today, I enjoy the freedom of living without glasses. I can see far, near, and intermediate distances with clarity and ease – something that used to feel like a distant dream.
